Hardy in USDA Zones 9–11, it can tolerate temperatures down to approximately 20–25°F for short periods when kept completely dry, although protection from frost is recommended. It thrives in warm conditions, with active growth performing well around 70–95°F, and benefits from bright light with some protection from intense summer afternoon sun. Water deeply but infrequently during the growing season, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings. Keep much drier during winter, particularly when temperatures are below 50°F, as this species is prone to rot when kept cold and wet.
